Castelar Cardinals ~ Determined to Succeed!
Castelar Elementary is located at 2316 S. 18th Street in the heart of South Omaha. Castelar staff is dedicated in providing quality education to students in Prekindergarten through fifth grade. The school offers English as a Second Language support, a unique K-5 Dual Language Program and a top rated Kids Club/ZAP(Zoo Afterschool Program) before and after school program. Castelar's mission is to inspire lifelong learners in achieving excellence. It is important that the entire school community work together and collaborate to create a strong and safe learning environment. Therefore, the involvement of parents and our community, as part of our team, ensures that each child will achieve both academic and social success.
Watch D.O.G.S. is a school based father involvement program that works to support education and safety within the school. Fathers, Grandfathers, or male Guardians can volunteer their time before, during, or after school. Watch D.O.G.S. are encouraged to come to lunch with their child and help supervise during recess. Watch D.O.G.S. are welcome at arrival and dismissal times to assist with student safety at these times. One of the great benefits of Watch D.O.G.S. is the classroom experience. Watch D.O.G.S. can see what their child is learning, and with preplanning they may be able to do a read a loud to their child’s class.

Jamie Balbuena's art work has been selected to be displayed on the Lozier billboard on 24th and Martha. This picture does not do it justice. Make a point to drive, bike, or walk by to check it out. We are very proud of our Cardinal.
This year Castelar Teachers Mr. Becker, Ms. Petersen, and Ms. Nordberg worked together to accomplish the task of qualifing Castelar as a Digital Citizenship Certified School. These teachers taught over 70 classes and 40 hours of curriculum to accomplish this task. Students learned about online safety, privacy and security of person information, and using the power of the internet responsibly. In doing so, Castelar has earned the Common Sense Education Digital Citizenship School Certificate. Way to go Cardinals. We are Determined to Succeed!!
